Master Key Experience – Week 12
Here are a few dictionary definitions of the term “persistence”- firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. The quality that allows someone to continue doing something or trying to do something even though it is difficult or opposed by other people: the state of occurring or existing beyond the usual, expected, or normal time.
Persistence is the spirit-enabled ability to practice habits daily that will help you develop the skills necessary for competency in a particular task. It is the habits that are practiced everyday that give us the strength to endure, to press on, to persist. Some people think that persistence is “not quitting”, or “just hanging in there” when things get tough. But when circumstances become difficult, and these habits haven’t been established, then we default to the familiar. Unfortunately, most people’s familiar here is to give up, quit.
4 Tiny Habits
There are 4 tiny habits that some persistent people have in common. They are:
- a purpose, with a burning desire,
- a written plan of action,
- a positive mental attitude,
- a mastermind alliance (group of like-minded people).
Practiced daily, over a period of time, these habits will help you stay on track. Persistence is not a characteristic. It is a byproduct of practicing habits.
“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved
and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
– Calvin Coolidge
